Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Demi Chef to supervise specific cooking stations within our kitchen. This role involves overseeing line cooks, ensuring timely and accurate preparation of menu items, and actively participating in the cooking, preparation, and plating processes. The Demi Chef is also crucial in maintaining high standards of health and food safety, troubleshooting kitchen issues, and fostering effective communication within the team. This position requires an individual who can manage their station efficiently, adhere to deadlines, and contribute to a positive and safe working environment.

Responsibilities and Duties

* Supervise and direct line or station cooks within a designated production area (e.g., wok, pastry, etc.). * Communicate orders clearly to station cooks and ensure all assigned menu items are prepared punctually. * Oversee all aspects of preparation, cooking, and final presentation of dishes originating from their station. * Provide direct assistance with cooking, preparation, and plating tasks when station chefs are not present. * Ensure strict adherence to all health and food safety regulations and assist in resolving any kitchen-related problems. * Take responsibility for the efficient operation of one or more specific kitchen stations (e.g., fryer, noodles, dessert). * Perform a significant portion of the food preparation and cooking duties for their assigned station(s). * Follow proper food preservation guidelines to ensure all food products are handled and stored at the correct temperatures. * Promote effective communication among staff by contributing to a secure and welcoming work atmosphere. * Take personal responsibility for maintaining excellent hygiene, safety practices, and the correct usage of equipment and utensils. * Demonstrate the ability to complete assigned tasks independently and within established timeframes. * Regularly check expiry dates and ensure proper storage of food items within their section. * Gather daily feedback and report any emerging issues promptly. * Perform any other relevant duties as instructed by management.

Qualifications and Requirements

* Proven experience overseeing a specific section or station within a professional kitchen. * Strong understanding of food preparation, cooking techniques, and plating standards. * Knowledge of and commitment to practicing high standards of health and food safety. * Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively within a team. * Demonstrated ability to manage time efficiently and meet deadlines. * A proactive approach to identifying and resolving kitchen-related issues. * A responsible attitude towards hygiene, safety, and the proper use of kitchen equipment. * Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned tasks. * Attention to detail in checking food quality and storage. * Willingness to provide feedback and report issues as they arise. * Flexibility to undertake additional duties as required by management.
