Description
The Assistant Finance Manager acts as a key financial partner for the organization, overseeing all aspects of financial management, including performance evaluation, financial accounting, budgeting, and corporate reporting. This role requires strong technical and leadership skills, with the ability to guide a team of finance professionals possessing diverse and specialized expertise. A key focus is consolidating their work, ensuring its quality and accuracy, particularly for reporting purposes. This role is expected to offer sound financial advice on working capital, financing options, and the organization's financial health by analyzing internal and external data and assessing the economic landscape. This individual often plays a crucial role in implementing best practices to identify and manage all financial and operational risks, ensuring the organization achieves its desired business and financial objectives. A strong understanding of economic and business trends is essential, as is the ability to implement process improvement projects focused on quality, compliance, and financial efficiency.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Oversee the organization's financial accounting and corporate reporting activities. - Maintain a well-documented system of accounting policies and procedures. - Supervise and review the creation of financial statements, operational performance reports, and financial projections for management and external stakeholders. - Monitor evolving accounting standards and regulations and their potential impact. - Provide financial leadership and strategic insights to support sustainable value creation. - Apply professional judgment to evaluate accounting treatments used in financial statements and assess their appropriateness and acceptability. - Oversee the calculation of the organization's taxable income and income tax obligations. - Evaluate the organization's capital gains and losses, along with associated capital gains tax liabilities. - Address tax-related matters in collaboration with external tax specialists. - Communicate relevant tax information to leadership to minimize the organization's tax burden. - Advise management on the organization's risk exposure. - Analyze prevailing market trends and provide strategic input to inform the organization's key financial decisions. - Analyze, compile, and present management information to facilitate informed decision-making. - Evaluate the effects of investment choices on the organization's financial standing. - Determine and understand the organization's financing requirements. - Identify and calculate both financial and non-financial performance metrics for reporting on the organization's performance. - Manage the development of the organization's budget. - Interpret, investigate, and report on budget variances to management, developing a comprehensive understanding of the relationships between these variances. - Maintain relationships with banking institutions for daily transactions and investment activities. - Prepare for the adoption and implementation of integrated reporting frameworks. - Plan and coordinate the annual financial audit. - Provide responses to internal and external auditors regarding audit data, variances, and audit findings. - Implement policies and procedures with a focus on internal controls to prevent fraud and errors. - Resolve issues and deficiencies identified during audits. - Strategically utilize management information systems for effective business management and control. - Assess the effectiveness of the organization's financial systems and identify areas for enhancement. - Ensure proper configuration of accounting rules within the organization's financial systems. - Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements
- A degree in accounting or a comparable professional certification (e.g., CPA, ACCA, CMA). - At least five years of professional experience, ideally within the hospitality or food and beverage industry, with prior audit experience being preferred. - Solid understanding of financial and accounting policies and procedures, indirect taxes, local tax regulations, auditing standards, and relevant accounting laws, practices, and regulations. - Excellent organizational and strategic planning skills, strong sense of responsibility and reliability, and exceptional attention to detail. - Demonstrated financial leadership qualities with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities. - Ability to work effectively as part of a team within a dynamic, fast-paced setting. - Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications. Experience with specialized accounting software is an advantage. - Occasional travel may be required.
