Description

We are seeking a passionate and skilled culinary professional to prepare delicious meals and contribute to a positive dining experience for our customers. In this role, you will be responsible for all aspects of food preparation, from initial ingredient handling to final plating, while adhering to the highest standards of hygiene and safety. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to menu development and ensure efficient kitchen operations.

Responsibilities and Duties

* Prepare ingredients meticulously by following recipes, employing techniques such as slicing, cutting, chopping, mincing, stirring, whipping, and mixing. * Season food appropriately and verify taste before plating meals attractively. * Prepare hot meals expertly using methods like grilling, sautéing, roasting, frying, and broiling, and assemble and chill cold ingredients as needed. * Strictly adhere to proper food handling, sanitation, and safety guidelines, including maintaining temperature and HACCP logs, and ensuring correct dating, labeling, and rotation of all food items. * Collaborate with the supervisor to contribute to daily, holiday, and themed menus. * Maintain a clean and sanitary environment for equipment, food storage, and work areas. * Complete cleaning tasks according to daily and weekly schedules, including dishwashing and pot washing. * Listen attentively to customer feedback and suggestions, resolving complaints within your scope and escalating complex issues to the supervisor. * Participate in and contribute to initiatives aimed at improving service quality and employee productivity. * Keep work areas, utensils, and equipment clean and organized. * Develop innovative new menu items while enhancing existing recipes. * Manage kitchen expenses, food costs, inventory, and staffing within budget constraints. * Demonstrate proficiency in cooking North Indian cuisine. * Be available to work flexible shifts. * Assist with all aspects of food preparation and the serving of meals to customers. * Supervise a team to ensure cleanliness and tidiness in both the kitchen and service areas. * Ensure strict adherence to all food and health and safety regulations.

Qualifications and Requirements

* Proven experience as a Cook or Chef with a strong foundation in North Indian culinary techniques and principles. * In-depth knowledge of North Indian recipes and the ability to follow them accurately and efficiently, with a keen eye for detail in ingredient preparation specific to this cuisine. * Expertise in preparing a variety of classic North Indian hot dishes using methods like tandoor cooking, grilling, various curry preparations (sautéing, simmering), and deep-frying popular North Indian snacks. * Thorough understanding of and strict adherence to food handling, sanitation, and safety regulations relevant to food service in Lagos, while also being knowledgeable about practices that maintain the authenticity of North Indian food. Familiarity with HACCP principles is a plus. * Ability to contribute creatively to menu development, incorporating both traditional North Indian dishes and potentially fusing them with local or international flavors. * A commitment to maintaining a clean and organized work environment, including adherence to cleaning schedules, which is particularly important in a bustling city like Lagos where hygiene standards must be high for all types of cuisine. * Excellent customer service skills with the ability to listen to and address customer feedback professionally, understanding the preferences for North Indian flavors within the Lagos clientele. * A proactive approach to contributing to team efforts aimed at improving service quality and efficiency, particularly in the preparation and service of North Indian dishes. * Ability to develop new North Indian menu items and improve existing recipes, potentially drawing inspiration from regional variations within North India. * Experience in managing kitchen resources effectively, including expenses, food costs, and inventory, with a focus on ingredients commonly used in North Indian cooking (depending on the specific level of the role). * **Demonstrated proficiency in preparing a wide range of North Indian cuisine**, including curries, lentil dishes (dals), vegetable preparations, meat dishes (if applicable), and popular breads like naan, roti, and paratha. * Flexibility to work various shifts as required by the demands of the restaurant business in a vibrant city like Lagos, which may include evenings and weekends when North Indian food is often enjoyed. * Ability to assist with all aspects of food preparation and service to customers, ensuring an authentic North Indian dining experience. * If applicable, experience in supervising a team in the preparation of North Indian dishes, ensuring cleanliness and adherence to relevant culinary standards. * A strong commitment to ensuring all food and health and safety regulations are followed meticulously, while maintaining the integrity and flavors of North Indian cuisine.
