Description
We are seeking a passionate and skilled culinary professional to prepare delicious meals and contribute to a positive dining experience for our customers. In this role, you will be responsible for all aspects of food preparation, from initial ingredient handling to final plating, while adhering to the highest standards of hygiene and safety. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to menu development and ensure efficient kitchen operations.
Responsibilities and Duties
* Prepare ingredients meticulously by following recipes, employing techniques such as slicing, cutting, chopping, mincing, stirring, whipping, and mixing. * Season food appropriately and verify taste before plating meals attractively. * Prepare hot meals expertly using methods like grilling, sautéing, roasting, frying, and broiling, and assemble and chill cold ingredients as needed. * Strictly adhere to proper food handling, sanitation, and safety guidelines, including maintaining temperature and HACCP logs, and ensuring correct dating, labeling, and rotation of all food items. * Collaborate with the supervisor to contribute to daily, holiday, and themed menus. * Maintain a clean and sanitary environment for equipment, food storage, and work areas. * Complete cleaning tasks according to daily and weekly schedules, including dishwashing and pot washing. * Listen attentively to customer feedback and suggestions, resolving complaints within your scope and escalating complex issues to the supervisor. * Participate in and contribute to initiatives aimed at improving service quality and employee productivity. * Keep work areas, utensils, and equipment clean and organized. * Develop innovative new menu items while enhancing existing recipes. * Manage kitchen expenses, food costs, inventory, and staffing within budget constraints. * Demonstrate proficiency in cooking North Indian cuisine. * Be available to work flexible shifts. * Assist with all aspects of food preparation and the serving of meals to customers. * Supervise a team to ensure cleanliness and tidiness in both the kitchen and service areas. * Ensure strict adherence to all food and health and safety regulations.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Proven experience as a Cook or Chef with a strong understanding of food preparation techniques and culinary principles. * Demonstrated ability to follow recipes accurately and efficiently, with a keen eye for detail in ingredient preparation. * Expertise in preparing a variety of hot and cold dishes using different cooking methods common in the local culinary scene and potentially including international influences. * A thorough understanding of and strict adherence to food handling, sanitation, and safety regulations relevant to food service in Lagos. Familiarity with HACCP principles is a plus. * Ability to contribute creatively to menu development, potentially incorporating local ingredients and flavors alongside broader culinary concepts. * A commitment to maintaining a clean and organized work environment, including adherence to cleaning schedules, which is particularly important in a bustling city like Lagos. * Excellent customer service skills with the ability to listen to and address customer feedback professionally, understanding the diverse palates of the Lagos clientele. * A proactive approach to contributing to team efforts aimed at improving service quality and efficiency within the specific context of the local hospitality industry. * Ability to develop new menu items and improve existing recipes, potentially drawing inspiration from the rich culinary traditions of Nigeria and beyond. * Experience in managing kitchen resources effectively, including expenses, food costs, and inventory (depending on the specific level of the role and the scale of operations in Lagos). * Demonstrated proficiency in preparing North Indian cuisine, catering to the diverse food preferences in Lagos. * Flexibility to work various shifts as required by the demands of the restaurant business in a vibrant city like Lagos. * Ability to assist with all aspects of food preparation and service to customers, understanding the expectations of the local dining culture. * If applicable, experience in supervising a team to maintain cleanliness and adherence to regulations, which is crucial in a busy Lagos kitchen. * A strong commitment to ensuring all food and health and safety regulations are followed meticulously, considering local health standards.
